Studies of school-wide discipline have shown that the implementation of punishment, in the absence of other positive teaching strategies, is ineffective and can sometimes lead to increases in problem behavior. Effective school discipline includes teaching students social skills that are expected in various classroom and school settings, reinforcing students’ appropriate behaviors, and responding consistently to problem behaviors when they do occur. This training will introduce educators to school wide positive behavioral interventions. Through interactive activities and reflection, participants will create positive environmental conditions that can increase the likelihood of children exhibiting appropriate behavior. Using best practices and a multi-tiered support system, participants will then determine the methods and systems to provide those resources to reinforce and sustain these environmental conditions.
