DESCRIPTION:
In this series for family childcare educators and center-based teachers, we will explore math learning in the early years, build math into the daily routine, and use unusual materials for math activities. Our focus will be on classification and patterning, the “building blocks” of number sense. Through hands-on experience, small group reflection, and group activities, we will focus on how educators facilitate math learning for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

TOGETHER WE WILL:

● Learn about children's mathematical development from infancy through the preschool years, especially classification and patterning.
● Create classification and patterning play opportunities and provocations
● Use unusual materials for math explorations.
● Uncover the math, and math opportunities, in everyday play and routines.
● Develop ideas for deepening children’s math thinking.
● To use the DRDP 2015 math measures: Classification and Patterning.

Training Dates & Time: 9/9 & 9/16 9am-12 noon

Professional Learning Community: Tuesdays
10/10, 11/14, 12/12
6:30 – 8 pm

● Training Commitment is important. Be present & engaged. Make mindfulness a practice.
● All participants must register for the training in order to participate. Trainers will do roll-call.
● Full commitment to training series. No partial Professional Development hours are given.
● Early Learning San Francisco Educators and SFQC Coaches may participate.
