Family childcare homes include children of different ages. These environments provide children with a greater opportunity for a variety of friendships and relationships. Settings with mixed age ranges offer children the chance to observe, imitate, and initiate a wide range of skills that are rooted in developmentally appropriate practice. Participants will identify the role of the adult as a careful planner, review theoretical instructional frameworks that support the importance of play, learn how to prepare a safe place for children of all ages to learn and grow, and review strategies to benefit children of mixed ages in a group setting.
